Prior to obtaining a dog of this breed, it’s important to decide what kind of a personality you would like to see in your pet. Nowadays, there are a number of types within this breed. They have much in common, but differ in appearance, behavior and abilities. Some types make good pets, guards and protectors; others are selected for the show ring. This breed is a fairly recent. Ancestors of modern dogs were used for herding sheep. Only the most intelligent and agile dogs could cope with large herds.
