Epilepsy, eczema, allergies, dwarfism, blood and digestive disorders occur in some bloodlines. The only way to avoid serious health problems in a purebred puppy is to obtain it from a reputable breeder that screens the breeding stock for all typical disorders. Ask for a health certificate of the puppy and both its parents.

Large species of the breed was the result of crossing the dog with the malamute. That was actually done to improve the breed. The dogs that were the results of this crossbreeding were stronger and bigger, weighing about 100-140 lbs. The coat of the dog is double and also may be of two types, the first one plush (long) and the second is smooth (short.) The smooth hair is straight, lying closer to the body and the other variety – plush – has a double coat with the coarse outer coat and very soft undercoat.
