Prior to purchasing a dog of this breed, it’s recommended to go to dog shows, talk to other owners of these dogs and watch a training class to know for sure the cost of owning such a large, active and intelligent pets. A puppy needs much time and attention to grow into a reliable and well-behaved adult. Occasional training sessions are not enough. Lessons should be regular, interesting and with positive motivation. Drill and harsh methods will do nothing but harm. Sometimes, professional training is recommended.

Though very intelligent, they do not make good kennel dogs or backyard dogs because the resulting boredom can lead to destructive behavior. Be prepared to spend quality time with your dog each day playing and training. These are people oriented hounds that prefer to be close to their owners. Taking a dog you must remember that it is a great responsibility.
